BRAIN WELLNESS NEUROFEEDBACK

WHAT IS NEURO FEEDBACK?

It's a type of biofeedback that uses EEG (electroencephalogram) technology to monitor brain waves and assists individuals in learning how to improve their brain function. This technique has been used to address a wide range of mental health issues and neurological disorders, including ADHD, anxiety, sleep disorders, and even traumatic brain injury.

OPTIMIZE YOUR BRAIN HEALTH

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

Neurofeedback works by placing small sensors on your scalp to monitor brain wave activity using an EEG (electroencephalogram). During a session, you will watch/play a video game while the system provides visual and audible rewards based on the specific brainwaves that are being trained. When your brain waves are functioning in the desired range, you continue to receive positive feedback, encouraging your brain to adjust in real-time

This continuous feedback teaches your brain to operate within a more balanced range, leading to improved mental and emotional regulation. Essentially, it's like training your brain in the same way you might train a muscle—through practice and repetition, your brain learns to optimize its functioning.

Benefits of Neurofeedback

This technique has been used to address a wide range of mental health issues and neurological disorders, including ADHD, anxiety, sleep disorders, and even traumatic brain injury.

Reduces Symptoms of Anxiety

Anxiety is a disorder that manifests when a person is living in stress/survival mode for a significant amount of time.  Our bodies were designed to handle short term stress, but over time, if stress and survival become the new normal, anxiety takes over the body causing physiological changes as well as an overactive mind.  Essentially, the mind is living in the future, oftentimes analyzing worst case scenarios making it impossible for the body to be at ease.  If you or your loved one believes anxiety is present, here are some common symptoms:      -Persistent, excessive worry      -Difficulty sustaining attention      -Racing thoughts, restlessness      -Easily frustrated, prone to having angry outbursts      -Feeling nervous or tense      -Trouble concentrating      -Having a sense of impending danger, panic or doom      -Trouble breathing      -Increased heart rate      -Changes in eating, either too much or too little      -Difficulty with memory, decision making and focus      -Unable to relax      -Panic attacks or fear of impending panic attacks      -Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

Relieves Symptoms of Depression

Depression is a disorder that feels like the body has been drained of all its energy.  It oftentimes feels like the body or the mind is paralyzed or has no more strength to go on.  The mind lacks enthusiasm for life and it spends much of the time living in the past or having regrets.  It is extremely difficult to break the cycle of depression because the emotions which are lower, i.e, sadness, guilt, shame or anger, signal the brain to have thoughts that match the emotions, then the thoughts signal the body to have emotions to match the thoughts.  Depression is a vicious cycle of hopelessness because it seems like there is no end in sight.  If you or your loved one believes depression is actively present, here are some common symptoms:      -Feelings of hopelessness      -Difficulty concentrating       -Insomnia or excessive sleeping      -Irritability, restlessness, angry outbursts      -Low energy levels, lack of motivation      -Low self-esteem/lack of self worth      -Lack of interest in activities that used to be fun      -Weight loss or weight gain      -Thoughts of death, suicide or self-harm      -Persistent feelings of sadness

Reduces Symptoms of ADD/ADHD

Attention Deficient Disorder and Attention Deficient Disorder with Hyperactivity are disorders of an overactive mind or in other words, certain brain waves are too fast, causing symptoms of inattention, anger and frustration.  If you or your loved one believes that ADD or ADHD is present, here are some common symptoms:  Hyperactive/Impulse Symptoms     -Fidgets/squirms, has trouble staying seated      -Excessive running/climbing or restlessness      -Trouble with quiet activities, work or school      -Feels like being run by a machine      -Often talks excessively, interrupts conversations       -Difficultly waiting in line or awaiting a turn      -Finishing other people's sentences      -Difficulty finishing projects and tasks       Inattentive Symptoms      -Difficulty paying attention, makes careless mistakes       -Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly       -Difficulty in follow through on tasks       -Trouble with organization       -Often loses things such as keys or phone       -Easily distracted by noise or any stimulation       -Often forgets thoughts or responsibilities Impulsivity Symptoms       -Interrupting others        -Finishing other people's sentences.        -Difficulty waiting in lines

Improves Focus and Concentration

Neurofeedback is able to improve focus and concentration by providing individuals the brain wave training to self regulate their cognitive performance and optimize their attentional states. The training process guides the brain toward desired states which serves as a catalyst for enhanced focus.

Your nervous system will often choose the comfort of familiar struggles over the uncertainty of unfamiliar peace.

What to Expect During a Session

Preperation

Sensors are gently placed on your scalp to measure brain waves using an EEG (electroencephalogram). These sensors do not cause discomfort and are used to track brain activity throughout the session.

01

Engagement

You will participate in a simple task such as watching a video game. This activity will take place as your brain waves are being monitored in real time.

02

Feedback

The neurofeedback system provides instant feedback based on your brain's performance. If your brain functions within the desired range, you receive positive reinforcement such as audible and visual rewards. If not, the feedback adjusts to prompt your brain to improve.

03

Progress Over Time

A full treatment plan includes multiple sessions over weeks or months. Improvements in symptoms such as focus, anxiety, or mood may appear gradually as your brain learns to regulate itself better.
